It is now 21 years since Simpsons Malt became Edrington’s sole supplier of the malted barley we use to distil our new make spirit. Both our businesses were founded in the 1860s and remain privately owned.
This long partnership has enabled us to work with Simpsons to build a network of farmers who can be relied upon to consistently provide the highest quality spring malting barley in the world.
Our agreement with them ensures that every batch of malted barley we take is grown from a certified seed source and can be traced back to the farm and even the field, from which the barley was grown.
Last year we invited 20 farmers who supply our business through Simpsons to The Macallan Estate to learn how their barley plays such a vital role in helping to produce The Macallan’s world-renowned whiskies.
Simpsons is a family business with a mission to sustain its business, communities and environment for future generations. Their goals include:
- Becoming carbon neutral by 2030
- Supporting barley farmers in becoming Gold accredited under the Sustainable Agriculture Initiative’s Farm Sustainability Assessment (SAI FSA) tool
- Donating up to 1% of profits to local community good causes through the company and the Simpson McCreath Trust
